An Inside Look at the Making of a Cabaret and the Women producing it

Arlington, MA—On July 18, 2016, at 8:00 PM, the producers of Midsummer Colors of Jazz: A Night of Song, Musicianship & Dance, will open the front doors of the historic Regent Theatre in Arlington, to give reporters a sneak peak at the making of a music and dance revue which aims to unite cultures and inspire its audience.

“These days, it seems like everyone’s attention is drawn to news of increasing racial and political division, hatred, killing— these things are on the minds of the public. So, we are creating something special for people to experience, something light yet meaningful in a positive way, that could be an incubator for new thoughts and new feelings,” said one of the event’s artists and producers, Bonnie Johnson. “Music and dance are art forms that intrinsically bring people together in the most positive ways.”

Bonnie Johnson is the DJ and host of the Colors of Jazz show at WICN (90.5 FM), and along with Denise “Red” Randall of Song Caravan, is producing this cabaret- style show which includes Cuban, Brazilian, classic jazz, and other contemporary music and a variety of dance performances ranging from modern and jazz dance to Yoruba and freestyle gypsy.

“Midsummer Colors is more than just a jazz concert–it is an assembly of nearly 30 artists and masters of their craft, who are all local, all from the Massachusetts area. They will be creating and collaborating to provide a true melting pot of multicultural performances,” said Randall, the creator of Midsummer Colors.

Bonnie Johnson will be available to speak with reporters during this Monday’s final dress rehearsal; the theatre, portions of the show, and the show preparation will be available for filming as well.

The Regent Theatre is located at 7 Medford Street in Arlington, Massachusetts 02474. Additional information can be found at the Midsummer Colors of Jazz website,
